I am Dilakshana Mayadunne, a bridge engineer with over 14 years of experience delivering rail and highway infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. My expertise spans design management, works package management, structural design and assessment, and construction supervision, with a particular focus on bridges and civil structures.
I currently work as an Associate Director at BWB, where I hold dual leadership roles: Discipline Lead for Bridges & Civil Structures and Regional Lead for the Infrastructure Division, which includes Bridges & Civil Structures, Highways, Rail, Geotechnical and Project Management disciplines.
As Discipline Lead, I help shape the strategic direction of the team and support the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects. I collaborate closely with colleagues across the business to ensure technical quality, effective resource management, and robust programme and budget control. My responsibilities also include client coordination, risk management, and contributing to business development efforts to strengthen our presence in the infrastructure sector.
In my role as Regional Lead, I support the operational management of the division, ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical outputs, maintaining rigorous quality assurance standards, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. I am also responsible for project financials, contract administration, and supporting initiatives that drive continuous improvement and market growth.
Mentoring and professional development are important to me. As an ICE Supervising Civil Engineer, I guide early-career professionals on their path to chartership and help foster a culture of technical excellence within our teams.
Alongside my bridge engineering work, I have a keen interest in software development. I have developed in-house tools using Swift, C++, and Visual Basic for Applications to automate design and management processes, making project delivery more efficient. One of my personal projects, RC Section, is a mobile app available on the Apple App Store that supports the design of reinforced concrete sections in accordance with Eurocodes.
I am passionate about solving complex problems, working across disciplines, and finding practical ways to improve how we deliver infrastructure. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to the industry while continuing to learn, grow, and support others along the way.
